A new survey of 2,000 British women by Britain’s Platinum magazine reveals that many of them think things get better with age.

The survey, reported on the Study Finds website, questioned a thousand women aged 20-30, and another thousand aged over 50. More than half of the over 50s said they were ‘happy with their relationship status’ and more than a quarter were happy with their age. More than 16 per cent said they were more happy with their looks and attractiveness than at any other time in their lives.

The younger women, on the other hand, revealed only 44 per cent of them were happy with their love lives, and only one-in-ten with their age and self-confidence.

Seventy per cent of the older cohort regularly go on dates; and they report that they’re doing at least two hours of physical exercise a week. That’s half an hour more a week than the average women from the younger group.

Two thirds of the older group say that the media misrepresents them on a regular basis. While the media have them sitting at home, knitting and watching TV, in reality, according to Platinum’s editor Ali Kicker, “Over 50s are still passionately working, enjoying a great love live and going to exciting social events”.

A third of the older group say they don’t feel their age – with many of them reporting taking on new experiences, including travel and starting new businesses.

It seems the two old girls aren’t the only ones who believe age is just a number.
